Kollywood actors to greet the Chief Minister

DMK Youth wing assistant secretary and Corporation Mayor M.Subramanian is organizing a grand function to celebrate the Chief Minister’s 85th birthday. The second day of the function on 05.06.08 will have actors will be participating to greet the Chief Minister Karunanidhi. This grand function will be held at 5.00 PM at Kamaraj Arangam.

Music Director Deva will sing a song praising the Chief Minister. Director Bhagyaraj will head this function. Actress Manorama, Manivannan, Kushboo, Rajesh, Y.G.Mahendran, Delhi Ganesh, Nizalgal Ravi and Chinni Jayanth will shower the greetings on the Chief Minister.

Dasavatharam free from the clutches of Hindu outfits

Finally Dasavatharam has won the legal battle since Madras High Court on Thursday dismissed a petition seeking a direction to film certification authorities to change the title of the Kamal Hassan starrer ‘Dasavatharam’ and delete some scenes, paving the way for the movie’s release.

The petitioner, International Sri Vaishnava Dharma Samrakshanaa Society (SVDSS) represented by its President Swamy Govinda Ramanuja Dasan, had contended that the movie had scenes that offended Hindu sentiments, particularly that of Vaishnavites Justice K Venkatraman and M Satyanarayana of the Division Bench dismissed the case saying the name “Dasavatharam” was an ancient historical and religious one and nobody could object its usage since there was no intellectual property rights attached to it.

The Bench turned down all the allegations since the petitioners had not watched the movie their apprehension lack substance, the Bench said while dismissing the case.

Election Results of South Indian Film PRO Union

Elections for South Indian Film PRO Union were held recently in Chennai and the results have been presented to the media channels now. Vijay Murali has been elected as the president while Purunthulasi Pazhanivel as the secretary. Mr. Ramdas has been appointed as treasurer and following the posts of other categories.

Spending a great life as a software engineer in United States, here comes Mr. S M Raju who commences his directorial journey with a great theme in Kollywood. Software development perhaps would have been his job for butter and jam, but his passion for filmmaking was inevitable. Setting out from US, he joined veteran director Santhosh Sivan and worked as assistant for Malayalam blockbuster movie ‘Anandha Bathram’. Apart from that, his short films have won laurels across the far-flung corners of the world.

His debut flick in Kollywood is ‘Varnam’ a film not just about colors, but different shades of human life. Whatever may be the childhood day dreams, but everything gets faded away once the days pass by. This is something to do with reality and Raju says that he would strive blending reality to the screens. The film also would focus on how caste system affects each one’s life in different forms.

Most part of the film has been shot across in and around hill areas of Kodaikanal. Debutants Giri and Ashwata perform the lead role along with Azhagi fame Monika while Sampath, Gowtham and others have crucial roles to present.

One of the main highlights of the film would be a song that is canned within single shot. This song would be featured for say around 3 minutes.

Romantic film of 36 hours

Kodambakkam has been experiencing a vivid change of genres that includes films that had time reel of just couple days, a day or probably couple of hours. Well, Mannil Indha Kaadhal too falls under the same genre where the story centers on 9 youngsters who together are yearning for good opening in film industry. With their lives with happiness and vain, a sudden twist appears when they come a pair of young lovers. The pair has got something to do more in their lives and the entire story takes place within 36 hours.

The songs for the film will be canned within the same house since it has the time reel of 36 hours suiting to the screenplay. Jai Kamal not alone just plays the lead role but handles story, screenplay, dialogues and direction together. With debutant Jyothi playing the female lead role, we have Shanmugha Sundaram, Chaplin Balu, Rajesh, Madhu, Suresh Chinna, Joghi, Shankar, Baburaj, Anbu, Nivas Kumar, Lashmu Karthik and Subramani roped in for important roles.

R.Saraswathi and R. Yoghanandam are producing this film while J. Rajesh Kumar cans the shot with Yajay scoring music. M. Koteeswaran takes care of editing and choreography by K. Siva.

Shooting for the film has been completed and it is slated for release during the mid of June.

Balakumaran honoured

The most popular novelist and writer Kalaimamani Balakumaran was conferred Vocational Excellence’ Award recently by Rotary Club of Adyar. Rotarian Sridhar, director, Vocational Service has made a documentary on him. Balakumaran stated that only shame, pain and angst have made him write.

But the 10 years of rigorous reading that he did, prodded by his mother, have made him what he is today. Many of his short stories are taken from his own life. Balakumran who had written dialogues for many films which include Shankar’s Kadhalan’ and ‘Gentleman’. After the sad demise of writer Sujatha, Balakumaran has been roped in for Robot.

Simbhu to have a magazine of his own

Falling in line with Ajith, Vijay and other actors Simbhu has also planned to bring out a monthly magazine which will depict about his forthcoming movies and other details regarding him. In this connection he has contacted his state wide Fans Club who assured him that if he paid them a ‘considerable’ sum every month, they would ensure the ’smooth’ release of the magazine to ‘tell’ the whole world all it wanted to know about Simbhu.

Actor Prashanth is Scot free

Actor Prashanth has been engaged in a legal battle with his wife for the past one year following dowry harassment charges. Grihalakshmi had alleged that Prashanth and his family had asked her to bring a car as dowry. She further said she was ill-treated and subject to mental torture by her in-laws and complained to the Anti-Dowry Cell.

The department had been conducting an enquiry into the case and filed a 750- page report in the Saidapet Court. The report filed by the Anti-Dowry Cell had categorically denied any incident of dowry harassment of his wife Grihalakshmi by him. The report had vindicated him as all the charges of Grihalakshmi were found to be wrong by the police.
