No celebrations for Anjathey

Anjathey was produced by Nemichand Japak. Anjathey stars Naren and Prasanna in pivotal roles. Naren dons the role of a police officer while Prasanna plays a character with negative qualities. This film completed its 100th day some three weeks ago but there is no sign for celebration. Originally, it was decided that the success of the movie would be celebrated at a grand function on June 27 at Kamarajar Arangam.

But now, it seems like they have called it off, as the producer of the movie seemed unhappy about the decision to celebrate the success and decided against participating in it. The movie’s director Mysskin has launched his next project Nandalala, which will go on floors on July 1. Shooting will be held in Chennai first and the crew is expected to move immediately to Gobichettipalayam.

Life Time Achievement Award for A R Rahman

25-minute video production featuring directors K. Balachander and Mani Rathnam, lyricists Vaali and Vairamuthu, playback singers S.P. Balasubramaniam, Hariharan and Chitra, and actors Kamal Haasan and Prabhu showering accolades on A.R. Rahman was screened on Tuesday Rotary Club of Madras. The Club honoured him with the ‘Lifetime achievement award.

While commending Mr. Rahman’s musical genius, almost all of them spoke of his humility. The prolific music composer, who started playing piano at the young age of four, has grown from strength to strength. Since his debut in Roja, he has never looked back. In a career spanning 17 years, he has won four National awards, 21 Filmfare awards and also the coveted Padmashree title. On the music that he liked listening to, he said ‘Carpenters’, the music of composers K.V. Mahadevan, Viswanathan-Ramamurthy and particularly those of P. Susheela, were his all-time favourites.

President of the Rotary Club of Madras Indra Subramanyam, director of vocational service Hemant Chordia and honorary secretary Shibu Isaac were among those present.

Kannadasan awards bagged by Srikanth and Jayachitra

Kannadasan Awards were presented to veteran yester year actors Srikanth and Jayachitra by the eminent music composer M.S.Viswanathan. This function was organised by Kaviarasu Kannadasan Thamizh Sangam on the occasion of 82nd birthday of Kannadasan. M.S.Viswanathan, Ramamurty and P.B.Srinivas was the chief guest. Many distinguished personalities were present on the occasion. Here is a tail piece of the poet. That was the time when Kannadasan and actor Sivaji Ganesan were not on friendly terms.

Hence Kannadasan was not called upon to pen lyrics for Ganesan’s films. But when a producer was keen to have the inimitable lyricist work in the Ganesan film he was making, Ganesan agreed. Composing had begun and Sivaji Ganesan was also present. He was just staring at the poet, because they had still not made up. The friction was palpable. M. S. Viswanathan was waiting with his harmonium for Kannadasan to spell out the words. Generally the poet would dictate and his assistants would note down the lyric.

But that day Kannadasan took the writing pad and pen in his hands, jotted down the lines and gave them to MSV. One glance at the pad and MSV got tense. He judiciously returned it telling Kannadasan to read it out himself. The words read: `Ennai Yaar Endru Enni Nee Paarkiraai … ‘ Sivaji Ganesan burst out laughing, walked up to Kannadasan, hugged him and said, “Muthaiah (Kannadasan’s actual name)! You’ve not changed at all!”
