Kollywood Today one liners

National Award winning actress Priyamani can be seen in bikini. But unfortunately it is not a Tamil film. It will be for the Telugu flick, Drona, in which she is paired with Nithin. This is for a steamy number, which was recently canned.

Nambiar excelled in playing multiple parts in a film at a time when technology was at a rudimentary level in Tamil cinema. In Thigambarasamiyar, released in early 1950s, he had donned eleven roles.

Nambiar had also acted in an English film Jungle (with Rod Cameron, directed by William Burke) in which he appeared in a few scenes. The film was released in 1952.

Ranjitha who did the lead role in Bharathiraja’s Nadodi Thendral bid good bye to cinema after her early marriage,. Though she did not appear on the silver screen she did her stint on the small screen. Now she is back in the film Villu where she dons the role of Vijay’s mother.

Chapter 6 to hit screens soon

Athiyayam 6 is to hit the screens soon. Master Suresh who had acted in 215 films including Mouna Geethangal and My Dear Kutti Saathan is now directing this film. His name is now Suriyakiran. He turned director with Sathyam, produced by Nagarjuna. newcomer Harinath and Bala playing the lead roles. Kaveri, Kotta Srinivasa Rao, Rajan P Dev, Suman Shetty are also in the cast. It is titled Athiyayam 6 because the screenplay is structured with six chapters.

Each chapter would have a colour symbolizing the mood of the story. Chithiralselvan handles the cinematography while music is by Mohan Sithara, Arputhan and P C Sivan. The movie was shot in Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya and Vizag. Made simultaneously in Telugu and Tamil the film is being produced by Kalyani under the banner Midas Touch. Kalyani had acted in Tamil films like Kaasi and Samudram under the name Kaveri. Kalyani is also the wife of the director.

Arun Vijay arrested in Thailand

It is a know news that Arun Vijay is shooting for the film Malai Malai in Thailand. But unfortunately the crew was arrested by Thai Army. Actor Arjun Vijay and the cinematographers were arrested by the Thai army when the shoot was on for this film at Ko Man Islands near Pattaya City, It was only when the location manager and the producer explained the story to concerned officials that those arrested were been released.

The shooting came to a halt until the crew were been released.

Taare Zammen Par selected as India’s official entry for the Oscars

Aamir Khan’s directorial debut Taare Zammen Par has been selected as India’s official entry for the Oscars. The movie will compete in the Best Foreign Language Film category. It stars Aamir Khan, Darsheel Safary, Tisca Chopra, Vipin Sharma and Sachet Engineer. Khan is currently shooting in Ladak for Raju Hirani’s 3 Idiots and is expected back in Mumbai tomorrow.

Aamir stated on hearing this news said that he is really happy that TZP been selected to represent India at an international forum like the Oscars. He added ,” It is a film that is extremely close to my heart. It’s a film that first sensitized me as a parent and as person and then went on to have same effect on all the audience in India and across the globe. I hope that it has an equally strong impact on the members of the Academy as well.”A total of nine Indian movies were contesting this year for the Oscar nomination, of which Bollywood had the highest share with movies like Taare Zameen Par, Ashutosh Gowarikar’s Jodhaa Akbar, Neeraj Pandey’s A Wednesday, Nishikant Kamat’s Mumbai Meri Jaan, Abhishek Kapoor’s Rock On and Subhash Ghai’s Black & White. The two Marathi movies that were in the running were Tingya and Valu along with one Telegu movie Gamayam. The committee unanimously chose Taare Zameen Par for its universal appeal.

The 81st Annual Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2008 will be presented at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, CA on 22 February, 2009. The Tamil dubbed version for which Surya has dubbed for Aamir will hit the screens shortly.

A R Rahaman to compose for election commission

A R Rahaman is becoming more and more patriotic. He is composing the signature music for the T 20 matches. He is already in charge for composing the theme music for the Commonwealth games to be conducted in New Delhi and now the best part is Election Commission has approached him to compose the tunes with a strong message to educate people about the benefits of elections and improve voter turnout for the Nov 29 assembly election in Delhi.

Rahman has already given them permission to use one of his compositions for the awareness campaign. Rahaman will also personally campaign for them and tell people to come out and vote. The campaign aims at creating awareness among 12 different segments of people who generally don’t vote. The electoral office is using one of Rahman’s compositions, ‘Pappu can’t dance…’ from the Bollywood movie ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’ for creating TV, radio and print adds to encourage voters to cast their ballots. A R Rahaman will not receive any remuneration for this.
