Varanam Aayiram premiered in 20 plus centers in the USA. This is the first time ever either a Suriya or Gautham Menon film is getting this kind of response.

President of Rajinikanth Fans Association, Sathyanarayana, better known as Thalapathi to Rajani fans, has been rested from the post since he is unwell. However, no one has been appointed in his place.

Following reviews that Varanam Aayiram was slow in the second half and scenes glorifying Suriya as a macho man was needless in the movie director Gautham Vasudev Menon has trimmed the movie.

Thamanna is currently busy acting in Ayyan, Padikadhavan and Ananda Thandavam.

She said,” Ananda Thandavam is a beautiful love story. This kind of film has not been made so far. The shooting of the film took place in Ooty and Papanasam. The climax sequence was shot in New York. Suresh Krishna really wept when shooting the climax scene. The scenes were so emotional and realistic. I am donning a role of a bold girl in the film Ayyan. I am pairing with Surya. My experience in acting with him is so sweet. He is a real gentleman. He has lot of fans. I have learnt a lot from him. I am doing a comical role in Padikadhavan. This film will be releasing in December. There is no call sheet till 2009. I will be accepting new films after this only. Kamal is a wonderful actor. I am eagerly waiting to act with him. He is producing Marmayogi now. I will be happy if I get a chance to act in this film. I love cinema and I am learning a lot about cinema. I have no time to romance or roam with boyfriends.

My only ambition is to act in quality roles and carve a niche for myself in cinema world.”

Metu Podu was a programme featuring Vairamuthu’s songs. S P B Balasubramaniam and Chitra crooned the songs in this function. Vairamuthu narrated some interesting incidents which took place in his career. One such incident was about penning the lyric for the film Muthu. He said,” Rajnikanth and me used to discus lot of matters including religion and politics.

Once we discussed about Alexander the great. Alexander conquered the whole world but he told his assistant that to keep his both hands out of the coffin box when he dies. This is to show people that he is not taking anything with him when he is dead. Based on this I wrote the lyric for Muthu. The song was Oruvan Oruvan Mudalali (each one is a boss). I have written one line which goes like this Mannin Meedhu Manidhanukasai Manidhan Meedhu Mannukasai (Man is fond of soil but soil is also found of man)

Sunaina said that she is not acting in the film Madhan directed by Jai Akash. She stated,”Jai Akash started this film some three years ago. I had acted in few scenes at that time. The film was shelved. So I started acting in other films and became busy. I was shocked when I saw the media saying that I was acting in this film. It also came as a surprise when Jai Akash mentioned in a media meet that I was acting in his film when I am not actually acting in this film. I will prefer a complaint regarding this with the Actor’s Association.”

The shooting of the film Jaggubhai is to take place in Australia. The crew numbering 40 members including Sarath Kumar and Shreya left for Australia. Radhika is producing this film under the banner Radan Media. The shooting of this film will take place for 25 days in Melbourne city in Australia. Sarath, Shreya, Srisha, director K S Ravikumar and R D Rajashekar and other crew members left for Australia three days before.

Two songs featuring Sarath, Shreya and Srisha will be shot there. Helicopter action scene and some other important scenes will be shot there. After this the crew will leave for Malaysia. The shooting will take place for 20 days there. The film was also shot in Bangkok earlier.

Vijay along with his fans took part in a protest fast in support of Sri Lankan Tamilians. This protest which was organised by his fans club took place in 37 places throughout Tamil Nadu.

Vijay speaking on this occasion said,” I came to know that my fans have organised protest fast in 37 places throughout Tamil Nadu. It is not my effort. My fans have made this decision. They asked me that we should show our solidarity in the Sri Lankan Tamilians issue. They asked my consent. I agreed for this and hence I am participating in this fast. There is no politics in this. This fast is to show our solidarity in support of Sri Lankan Tamilians. The battle in Sri Lanka should stop immediately. Innocent Tamilians should not be butchered. We are in a position to go and fight there in support of Tamilians. We can show our feelings by holding this kind of protest fasts.” Vijay’s father director S A Chandrasekaran, mother Shoba and wife Sangeetha also participated in this fast.

The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy gave away the prestigious Nandi Awards for the year 2005 and 2006. The Nandi awards for 2005 and 2006 went to Nagarjuna and Mahesh Babu (best actors), Trisha and Nandita Das (best actresses), ‘Pothe Poni’ and ‘Bommarillu’ (best films) and Krishna Vamsi and Sekhar Kammula (best directors), respectively.

The Chief Minister also presented the NTR national awards to super star Krishna (2003), music director L. Ilayaraja (2004), Kannada actor Ambarish (2005) and Hindi film heroine of yesteryears, Waheeda Rehman (2006). The Raghupati Venkaiah awards were given to filmmakers M.S. Reddy (2005) and D. Rama Naidu (2006). They carried cash awards of Rs. 5 lakh each.
