Review – Sivapuram

Star-casts: Prithviraj, Kavya Madhavan, Manoj K jayan and others.
Production: Manian Pillai Raju, Ajaychandran Nair, Raghuchandran Nair
Direction: Santhosh Sivan
Music: MG Radhakrishnan

Prior to couple of weeks, we had ‘Yaavarum Nalam’ a skittish film that overwhelmed with extraordinary making. With the film experiencing a great response, the Malayalam film ‘Sivapuram’ has found the right place to get released. For those who had drawn more attention for such genre, this film is yet another treat.

Years back, Santhosh Sivan made a great debut directorial with ‘Anandabadram’ that turned to be a grand blockbuster. During that point of time, when this was released in Mollywood, there were no such skittish flicks as everyone were terribly bored watching films bounded with unwanted heroisms…

And now, getting dubbed as ‘Sivapuram’ wins the laurels for Santhosh Sivan.

To fulfill his mother’s (Revathi) wish, Ananthan (Prithviraj) returns from America to Kerala to lighten a lamp at their family temple. Though it is simple that doesn’t go as expected as there happens to be a evil sorcerer Digambaram (Manoj K Vijayan) keeping an eye on ‘Naga Manickam’ below the temple. Gaining this would make him the powerful source in this world. When Chemban (Kalabhavan Mani) strikes against the evil deed, Digambaram turns him blind and has his sister (Riya Sen) as his victim of getting possessed.

When Ananthan tries to put an end for this evil sorcerer, he’s prone to serious situations of himself getting possessed. Finally, how he strives making things brighter with the aid of his ladylove (Kavya Madhavan) forms crux of the story.

It’s Manoj K Vijayan who scores the best when it comes to performance. Prithviraj and Kalabhavan Mani have done justice to their roles. Riya Sen merely has few scenes to showcase her potentials and ditto to Kavya Madhavan…

Santhosh Sivan’s trenchant cinematography is mind-boggling and he sustains a specified tone throughout the show…

Musical score is mediocre and it could’ve been precisely better.

The film’s narration overwhelms with best plotline and gripping aspects adds more strength…

On the whole, it’s a film worth watching.

Bottom – Line: Finest spooky flick

Verdict: Good show by Santhosh Sivan…

Why I refused to act with Vijay?- Thamanna

Thamanna who acted in Kedi, Vyabari, Kaloori and Netru Indru Naalai has paired with Dhanush in Paddikadhavan. Now she is acting with Surya in Ayan. She is currently acting in Ananda Thandavam, Kanden Kadhalai with Bharath and Paiya with Karthi.

Nayanthara was supposed to act in Paiya. But due to salary problems she refused to act in this film. Immediately Thamanna was offered this role which she readily accepted. She accepted to act in this film with a lesser salary. By this act, she has also earned the wrath of Nayanthara. At this point she was offered the female lead role in the Vijay starrer Vetaikaran, but she turned down the offer. Anushka was offered this role and she agreed to pair with Vijay.

When asked about this Thamanna said, “I am acting in Paiya because Nayanthara refused to act in this film. I always have a sentiment. That is if I act in the roles refused by others, it has proved lucky for me. In that way the role which was lost by Nayanthara became my gain. There is no doubt that this film will become a super hit. It is true that I got an offer to act in Vijay’s film but since I am committed with many films I was not able to accept this role. I missed this chance. But I have faith that I will get a chance to act with him.”
