Review – Gnyabagangal

Star-casts: Pa. Vijay, Sri Devika, Jeevan and others
Production: Pa. Vijay
Direction: Jeevan
Music: James Vick
Story, Screenplay, Dialogues and Lyrics: Pa. Vijay

The film opens with Pa. Vijay on his reading note ‘This is a film based on the last pages of my Friend Kathiravan’s personal diary. He had an unaccomplished wish to be gifted for his girlfriend Meera who married someone else now due to her parents urging.’

Pa. Vijay himself enacts the role of Kathiravan an aspiring young lyricist who comes to Chennai seeking for an opportunity in tinsel town. He falls in love with a Marwadi Girl Meera (Sri Devika) and they go through the journey of extreme romancing. But unfortunately, Meera is forced to marry a guy from her caste and she flees to Haridwar. Years later, Kathiravan wins the National Award and he heads to visit Meera. But she isn’t aware that he’s come to visit her for the last wish to be accomplished.

Watch the unexpected climax that will soak your eyes with tears.

Pa. Vijay has done a prodigious job on multi-tasked vistas of script, screenplay, dialogues, and lyrics as well performing with more efficiency. Meera on the pars does justice to her role and doesn’t slip out of her characterization. The film is patently based on the narration style ‘Rain Coat’ directed by Rituparno Ghosh starring Ajay Devgan and Aishwarya Rai in lead roles. The encounters of Kathir and Meera on a rainy day are merely based on similar scenario.

Musical score by James Vick could’ve better and few songs should’ve been removed. ‘Gnayabagam Illayo En Thozhi’ is a mesmerizing number. Director Jeevan fails to impress us with technical aspects and the visuals look so glary in many portions. Screenplay by Pa. Vijay is quite impressive, but the next-to-last minutes of the film is more dragging.

On the whole, ‘Gnyabagangal’ is a good piece of show by Debutant Pa. Vijay who enthralled us with his lyrical lines.

Bottom – Line: Heart-touching tale

Verdict: Average film
